Sanjii: Chapter 1.
The smoky bar gave off a scent that made the traveller want to gag. The shady tavern lent an anonymity that put him at ease; after all, being a night-elf topside was no cup of tea. His name was Sanjii, and he was a rare breed. His mother was a high-elf that let herself fall in love with her darker counterpart. She kept her son hidden from her clan as long as she could, but she was exiled not long after Sanjii left the womb. Blind, for the eyes of night-elves have no means for diffusing the light, the boy travelled with his mother from place to place, searching for a healer that could help him.Of course, no self-respecting human would heal an abomination such as him. At the age of twelve, Sanjii's flair for magick became apparent. He picked up tricks from the odd travelling mage here or there. One tibit he learned from a hermit necromancer proved very useful indeed. It was a ritual that would give him his sight. In the dead of night, while his mother slumbered, Sanjii drew the perscribed figure in the dirt near his camp. On the silent wings of the twilight, he made his way through the dark forest. He came upon a young man sleeping in the lee of the road. Lifting him with a spell of levitation, Sanjii brought the man back and set him atop the figure he'd drawn shortly before. With that, Sanjii began the ritual. With several whispered appeals to the spirits and a few required hand gestures, Sanjii put his hands across the captive's eyes and closed his own. With a bright flash of pain that almost caused him to cry out, he felt as though his eyes were being ripped from their sockets. In all actuality, they were, but he was so racked with pain that he couldn't feel the blood trickle down his cheeks. As suddenly as it had begun, the pain abruptly stopped. He opened his eyes and removed his hands from the man. He saw that the spiral scars the necromancer had spoken of, and Sanjii supposed there were similar markings on his own eyes. Running to the nearby stream, he washed and when he came back the man's body was gone. He felt a sudden pang of remorse for having taken that poor being's life, but the sorrow was washed away by his joy at being able to see. He ran to his bed and went to sleep away the rest of the dreadful night.
